Tax Preparer Continuing Education

TaxPreparersCE.com is an IRS-Approved sponsor with over 20 years of experience in delivering tax-related continuing education. Our 8- and 11-hour continuing education packages will satisfy the full education requirement for the new IRS Annual Filing Season Program. We have packages for preparers who are required to take the 6-hour AFTR course as well as those who are exempt from this portion of the requirement. AFTR Package

This package satisfies the annual continuing education requirement for the IRS Annual Filing Season Program for tax preparers who must take the AFTR course to qualify. The 11-hour package includes:

  • 6 hour Annual Federal Tax Refresher (AFTR)
  • 3 hours Federal Tax Law
  • 2 hours Ethics

Course materials are provided as a PDF file that can be downloaded from your account immediately after purchase. Exams are completed online. NOTE: Per IRS regulations, the AFTR exam will have 100 questions and a time limit of 3 hours. All other exams have no time limit and 5 questions per credit hour.

AFTR-Exempt Package

This package satisfies the annual continuing education requirement for the IRS Annual Filing Season Program for tax preparers who do not need to take the AFTR course. The 8-hour package includes:

  • 3 hours Federal Tax Law
  • 3 hours Federal Tax Updates
  • 2 hours Ethics

Course materials are provided as a PDF file that can be downloaded from your account immediately after purchase. Exams are completed online.

NOTE: TaxPreparersCE.com is not a CTEC-Registered provider and courses do not count for CTEC credit

How it Works

  1. Determine if you need to take the 6-hour AFTR course. See Am I Exempt?
  2. Purchase the appropriate continuing education package
  3. Download PDF study materials from your My Account page
  4. Take the multiple-choice, online exam for each course
  5. Receive your Completion Certificate immediately with a score of 70% or better
  6. TaxPreparersCE.com will report your credits to the IRS
  7. The IRS will contact you with more information about the AFSP program
